Krishna, god of supreme love
Krishna is a deity revered in numerous yogic currents from India. According to tradition, more than 5.000 years ago the goddess of the Earth, saddened because of the state of human civilization, went to visit Vishnu asking for help. He decided to incarnate as Krishna, god of universal love.
The name means “dark blue”, but he is also called “the all-attractive” because his supernatural magnetism is capable of attracting even the most asleep beings. Krishna is adored in many devotional traditions and several stages of his life are object of worship. You might have heard about him because he is one of the two main characters in the most famous yogic text of all times, the Bhagavad Gita. Today´s Spark is about young Krishna, the one who shows the sweetest love.
You will recognize this teenage Krishna because his skin is blue, he wears a golden dhoti and peacock feathers adorn his head. He is depicted playing a flute that enchants everyone that hears it because it plays the melodies of supreme love. He is represented in the natural environment where he spent the first stages of his life and often times surrounded by cows, deer, and, of course, his beloved Radhe. Krishna awakens the sense of joy and delight. He invites us to celebrate beauty in every circumstance. He is the one who plays, laughs, dances and enjoys human pleasures with full awareness of his divine essence.
Radhe y Krishna represent love in its human-divine fullness. As a couple they incarnate love, devotion and an aesthetic feeling. They surrender to one another, offer themselves and serve each other fully because they are goddess-god in a state of perfect union. The love between Radhe and Krishna inspires us to practice devotion and surrender to the universe. They are beautiful, innocent and wise at the same time. They live all nuances of their relationship. Sometimes it is so young that it can even draw a smile in our faces. Like the time when Radhe became jelous of Krishna´s flute because it could touch her beloved´s lips and he would breathe his prana into it. My goodness it is so sweet…
The practice for the super yoga heroes this week: observe yourself to see if you are too serious about life or if you are open to play and laughter. Surrender to the feeling that the universe loves you and dance with it as if you were one more star in the sky. The truth is that you are!
See you on the mat,
Om shanti
